Art

State of health:
Someone: There is water running out your nose
Julie: No, it'snot.

My cold didn't really get any better, so now I'm sniffing and sneezing and coughing. But at least I have been a bit more efficient and productive today.

I spent two hours after breakfast trying to block out Jacob's (my uncle's son from first marriage, kind of half cousin) kids playing the piano very enthusiastically and running around singing and yelling, to finish my last article for the newspaper. With a bit distraction in between, I wrote it, sent it and felt a bit lighter. Now I can have holidays with good conscience!

Then, even though it at that moment started snowing, I decided to get something out of my day and caught a bus to Århus.

Red brick houses. Suddenly I realised that 95% of all buildings here are red brick houses. Or yellow.

Equipped with map and descriptions, I managed to get around, at least in the beginning. Haha, my sense of directions is quite impressive. How do I survive on my journeys?
I went to ARoS, the art museum, to be a bit cultural.

The "rainbow" on top of ARoS is designed by an Icelandic architect and costs millions. Everything for the art, right? I just have to mention that that building is supposed to be inspired by the three realms in "the Divine Comedy".
FAR OUT. Art....

They had some very interesting exhibitons - Christian Lemmertz' revolting and fascinating marble scupltures for example - and some colourful and, to me, meaningless modern art. But what can you expect in the academic circles? Take a picture of some garbage, splat some yellow and pink paint on it and call it something interesting, and suddenly people will be amazed by the depth and message of the artistic masterpiece.
Give me instead som paintings where you can actually see what it is.
The artworks from the Danish golden age were very good, f ex Anna and Michael Ancher and P.S. Krøyer (the Skagen-painters).

Århus seen from the fifth floor.

And the building was nice - on the inside:)

Fascinating staircase

Then I had a walk along the river to the center of the city, and walked around looking in shops and not buying anything to save money.

Århus

Another red brick house

And another one. With windows. Interesting windows. Very artsy.

Cold day

Some Danish shops that I didn't shop in.

It has been a chilly day with some wind, so my cold got worse when I came back around five o'clock.
Had a nice dinner with everyone and I can now proudly announce that I have finished my first book in Italian. Molto bene.

Now I need to get a good night's sleep until the kids start singing tomorrow morning.

Buona notte!
